Titmouse

There are
three known species of titmouse: tufted, plain, and bridled. The tufted is
a year round resident of Florida. Although this bird has a highly nervous
temperament, it is also friendly and very sociable. In spring, the tufted
titmouse finds an area abundant with insects and builds its nest in the split
of an oak tree or a birdhouse in which to raise its brood. During winter when
insects are scarce, this perky little bird relies on birdfeeders for food.
Favorite foods of the titmouse are sunflower seeds, beechnuts, and acorns.
This house is handmade with weather and insect resistant western red cedar.
Almost all of the screws are stainless steel. These are used for their durable
and rust-free nature. The one exception is a specially coated screw located
at the bottom center of the front. This piece is used for ease in removal
to clean and mount the birdhouse. Other features incorporated into this box
are: vents, for good air circulation; a drain hole, in case water gets inside;
and a rough "ladder" for the fledglings to use to climb out.
